CrossFit UV Kids/Teens Purpose, Mission and Description:
CrossFit UV Kids is a program designed to take the beauty and function of CrossFit and adapt it to your child’s unique and ever changing needs. Our mission with CrossFit Kids (CFK) is simple: to help shape your child’s life long definition of health and fitness by pairing working-out and fun so that they will build habits to last a lifetime. While fun and games are important, helping your child to move better is our goal. We will introduce them to proper technique in weightlifting as well as everyday functional movements. CrossFit UV Kids will develop your child’s ten general physical skills: Cardio-respiratory endurance, Power, Strength, Stamina, Speed, Agility, Flexibility, Balance, Accuracy, and Coordination. We combine parts of gymnastics, bodyweight movements, running and weightlifting. Gymnastics will aid your child’s development by involving the vestibular system. Weightlifting will aid bone density development and take advantage of the window of opportunity for peak development in both children and teens. At the same time we will be increasing their strength and self confidence. Nutrition will be discussed and good food choices encouraged, but parental support in this area is KEY!
Expectations and Parental Support:
Kids may attend as often as they like to the kids classes, teens may attend teen classes as often as they like, but they are not permitted in adult classes. If your child/teen has a sport practice schedule please speak to a CFK Trainer to evaluate their combined activity schedule. Please ensure that you bring your child/teen properly dressed to work out, and have fun. Layered clothing works well for the changing temperature in UT. Make sure that they have athletic shoes that properly fit (the flatter the sole the better). It is very important that they stay hydrated so please make sure you bring a water bottle for your child. If your child has any special needs or requires medication that the CFK trainer should know about, please make that known to them. Parents are encouraged to either stay and watch or participate in the adult WOD that is running simultaneously. Parents are not allowed in the Kids WOD area while the Kids class is going.
Graduation from CrossFit Teens to the Adult Classes:
The CrossFit Kids Trainers will asses when the teen is ready to graduate to the adult classes. Because teen develop and mature at different rates, this will differ from one individual to another. The age recommendations for the programs are just that, recommendations. There are three primary elements that are evaluated: Physical capability, behavior ability/maturity, and safety (physical size may also be a factor). We will attempt to place your teen in the best place for them to excel.
How to Start:
To enroll your child in CrossFit UV Kids contact our CrossFit Kids Trainer, firstname.lastname@example.org, or by phone 801-900-3460. To ensure quality of training, enrollment in CrossFit Kids UV is limited. We are excited for the opportunity to work with your children and encourage them in their health and fitness journey.
