“MY-CROSSFIT-STORY”

My Story: I started doing CrossFit because, I saw all these girls doing pull ups and lifting heavy weights and I thought that is cool. If those girls can do those things, I can too. I also loved the fact that I didn’t have to do 20 minutes of “cardio” everyday to get a great workout and be in the best shape of my life. Before CrossFit I was going to the big box gym in town 3 times a week, and as you can see from the picture, it wasn’t working very well. CrossFit is the only workout program I have tried that after a year I am still doing the program and still seeing results and PRs! I have learned that CrossFit plus adopting the Paleo diet as a lifestyle equals the best version of me possible! The community and competitiveness of CrossFit is what makes it so great!

“MY-CROSSFIT-STORY”Why CrossFit? CrossFit is the most effective fitness program on the planet. I started CrossFit in 2007 at the age of 39, in terrible condition, not having exercised consistently in years. I was getting to the point where I felt old, I was always in pain and I thought, “It’s all going down hill from here”. Since beginning CrossFit I have lost over 12% body fat and gained significant muscle mass. I have competed in three local CrossFit competitions in the last two years and at the last competition, “Fitness Elevated 2011” I placed third in the masters division. I feel young now; I am in better shape today than I was at my peak in my twenties, and I am still progressing and setting new PR’s! Thanks to CrossFit I can keep up with my kids, I am healthier now than I have ever been, and I know I can handle whatever physical challenge life throws at me. The best part of CrossFit though, is just how amazing our community is. CFUV is family!

“MY-CROSSFIT-STORY”
Why CrossFit? CrossFit is Health! I was at a point before CrossFit where my weight was compromising my quality of life and how I felt on a daily basis. I felt like if I didn’t change my exercise and eating habits that I was headed for some really hard years later on. I got involved when Nolan introduced me to the Kool-Aid. I was chicken though, and it took me several weeks before I could muster enough courage to actually try a WOD. Of course I had to do it at home where no one could see me because I knew I would embarrass myself. I finally did a group WOD about a month later and then I could not go back. Now I can’t workout on my own; it just isn’t the same. CrossFit is effective in not only fitness but the confidence that we all need to perform tasks in our daily lives. It prepares you for circumstances that you may actually come in contact with. That translates into a feeling of power and confidence.

“MY-CROSSFIT-STORY”My career in fitness started in 2002 when I became a personal trainer. I trained clients using many different modes and techniques; some plyometrics, pilates, running, spinning you name it. I was constantly consumed with how I defined fitness- being thin and having “beach muscles”. It wasn’t until April of 2007 that I realized how far off I was! I did my first CrossFit WOD and realized what true intensity was; from there I decided CrossFit was the only program for me. I was able to CrossFit throughout my first pregnancy. I can attribute having an easy pregnancy and “relatively” easy delivery to CrossFit. Best of all, I was able to get my pre-baby body back very quickly. I would say my greatest CrossFit accomplishment has not been of a physical nature, but has been completely mental. My mindset has completely changed; I now have measurable criteria other than the bathroom scale to determine true fitness. Thanks to CrossFit and a Paleo style diet I am stronger, faster, more coordinated, and much much healthier than ever before.

“MY-CROSSFIT-STORY”After 10 years of lifting weights and running and doing the same old workout routine I got burned out. I stopped lifting completely and did only body weight movements (pushups, pull-ups, dips, etc) and running for a year. I was just beginning to incorporate weights back into my routine when a good friend introduced me to CrossFit in April 2006. At that time I had just finished playing rugby with the Air Force team, I could run a 5:40 mile, bench press over 300 lbs, and I was working out up to 3 times a day, so I thought I was in “great shape”… but CrossFit gave me a big slice of humble pie. Immediately I was sold. To this day, it challenges me, I continue to make progress, and I enjoy the program. It has been a few years since I’ve played competitive sports, but CrossFit feeds that competitive spirit whether I’m in group workout, competition or just trying to improve from yesterday.

“MY-CROSSFIT-STORY”My Crossfit conversion began after my first workout; it only lasted about seven minutes and left me sore for the rest of the week. I was instantly hooked. My life has always been centered around being active: rock climbing, mountain biking, hiking, etc. Through Crossfit I have been able to improve my performance in each of these areas of interest because of broad range of movements and demands that each workout provides. The workouts are short, sweet (sometimes bitter-sweet) to the point and its the only way to work out! The more I learn about it, the more I believe in it and see the results that come from it. Crossfit isn’t about just looking good for those summer months, its about improving your overall quality of life in every aspect!

“MY-CROSSFIT-STORY”I thought I had “fitness” figured out. When I started CrossFit in June 2009, I was an endurance junkie who regularly ran 20 miles or swam for an hour straight. After my first CrossFit class, however, while I lay exhausted on the floor, I realized being “in shape” was not what I thought! I couldn’t even do one regular push-up! In the past 2+ years, I have leaned out and gotten stronger—and have completely changed the way I train for endurance events. Within a few months of starting CrossFit, I became aware of CrossFit Endurance. In 2010 , I trained for and completed a full Ironman using the CF Endurance protocol. I had time for, well, life—and, I was getting faster–with less time spent training. Now, it is apparent to me that the answer to fitness—true, broad-based, functional fitness–is CrossFit. These days, I am able to complete nearly any movement CrossFit throws at me! My running is faster and more efficient. With CrossFit, CrossFit Endurance, and a paleo diet, I can keep up with my children—and their children—for years to come!

“MY-CROSSFIT-STORY”I started CrossFit in 2010 when I was thirteen. At the time, I was playing a little bit of basketball and now I am looking forward to starting track in high-school. Since I began CrossFit, both my physical and mental capacities have improved drastically, and I am continuing to make new PR’s. So far, I have competed in two local competitions plus, the opens for the 2011 games, and I have enjoyed them all. I love that CrossFit does not bore me and that it always presents a challenge; I am constantly being humbled and finding new things to improve upon. What I love most, though, is the community and the people that I get to workout with; they really are like a second family.
